![]() ![]() Is there any reason to think this is not happening, other than at baseline, it seems kind of far-fetched for Microsoft to pull a fast one like this? The main reason I can think of is that it might upset a few people, namely, the Forza Horizon 5 team who has had a killer launch, and would see a ton of players peel out to go play Halo instead. Like unless they are just straight up lying, as are the other leakers who claim inside knowledge, it’s hard to discount this completely. Then there’s another leak report, this time from Halo Hub, which says they were able to get into accessible 343 data to find text strings like “ Halo Infinite Season 1 “Heroes of Reach” starts on November 15th" and actual dates for season launch events: ![]() Granted, Microsoft is doing a lot of Anniversary stuff already, like a Halo-themed Xbox released on that day, but still. “That’s right, it’s a big year and for this twentieth anniversary we might have something a little special up our sleeves.” More recently, Halo’s Joe Staten said the following: Yes, in the past Microsoft has said that they were not splitting Halo multiplayer and the campaign up, but that was more in regard to say, one being delayed a few months, I think. Microsoft or Xbox has said nothing to push back against this since the rumors started, even behind the scenes when I’ve asked for comment. The multiplayer is available now.So, let’s keep going. Fans had built up the early Halo Infinitemultiplayer release in their minds well before the official announcement was made, so it's also a somewhat unique instance of unrealistic expectations being paid off, though it's unwise to expect it to become a regular occurrence. It's not often that fans get to play a game earlier than anticipated, especially by several weeks. Regardless, this is an incredible way for Microsoft and Xbox to honor Halo's legacy while at the same time doing something for fans. There is the question of how well Halo Infinite's servers will handle the flood of fans looking to jump into it as quickly as possible, though. It's not hard to imagine this early Halo Infinite multiplayer release being at least in part due to the successful flights. Halo Infinite's multiplayer flights were both well received by fans, and while they were only open for a limited number of fans during tight windows, it was enough to instill a lot of confidence in both 343 Industries and the players themselves. What Xbox is doing here is, frankly, a power play. Plus, it comes after Call of Duty: Vanguard, which has been similarly criticized. So far though, Battlefield 2042 has failed to impress fans. It puts Halo Infinite a few days before the official launch of Battlefield 2042, which is available in early access but doesn't release fully until November 19. Releasing Halo Infinite this early is a bit of a big deal, even if it's just the multiplayer component. Obviously, today is something of a holiday for fans, as it marks the 20th anniversary of not just Xbox, but of Halo: Combat Evolved too. Xbox sweetened the pot today too, announcing that Halo Infinite multiplayer is releasing earlier than anticipated.ĭuring Xbox's 20th Anniversary stream, Xbox announced that Halo Infinite multiplayer will be free to download starting today, November 15. This time around, the multiplayer component is going to be free, allowing players to dive into it regardless of whether or not they buy Halo Infinite.
